The Greater Renter ("TGR", "we", "us") is a service operated by The Great Folks Holding Corp. (TGF) that provides tenant screening, identity verification, and related data services to landlords and property managers.
We act:
- As a service provider (processor) to landlords; and
- As a data controller when you interact directly with our platform.
2. Eligibility & Consent
By proceeding, you confirm:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You understand and consent to the collection and use of your personal information
- You are providing accurate and complete information
If you do not agree, do not proceed.
3. Purpose of Collection (Tenancy Use Only)
Your personal information is collected solely for tenant screening and related lawful purposes, including:
- Identity verification
- Credit checks
- Rental and tenancy history
- Employment and income verification
- Criminal and public record checks (where permitted by law)
- Fraud prevention
TGR will not use your data for unrelated purposes without consent, except where required by law.
4. Types of Information Collected
We may collect:
- Basic Information: Name, date of birth, contact details, address history
- Verification Data: Government ID, biometric data (if applicable)
- Financial & Credit: Credit history and financial information
- Background Information: Rental, employment, and public record data
We collect only what is necessary for screening.
5. Consent to Background Screening
By continuing, you authorize TGR and its service providers to:
- Collect and verify your personal information
- Obtain information from credit bureaus, employers, financial institutions, and public records
- Share results with the requesting landlord or property manager
You may withdraw consent at any time, but this may impact your application.
6. Legal Basis (Canada)
We process your information in accordance with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy laws. Processing is based on consent, contractual necessity, legal obligations, and legitimate interests.
7. Disclosure of Information
We may share your information with landlords, service providers, credit bureaus, and authorities where required by law.
We do not sell your personal information.
8. Cross-Border Transfers
Your information may be processed outside Canada with appropriate safeguards in place.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information:
- Up to 1 years for screening records
- Approximately 30 days for biometric data
- Longer if required by law
10. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or withdraw consent regarding your personal information.
11. Accuracy & Disputes
You may request corrections if your report contains inaccuracies.
12. No Automated Decision-Making
TGR does not make tenancy decisions. Landlords make final decisions.
13. Limitation of Liability
TGR provides information as received from third parties and is not responsible for landlord decisions.
